The importance of punctuality and attendance

It is acknowledged that a great majority of our families ensure that their children attend school regularly. Thank you!

Let’s work together to achieve consistently high attendance. There are only 190 school days in a year and we want to see every child at school every day because every school day counts!

One of our key priorities is to improve our school attendance. Over the last year we achieved an attendance rate 97.4% for all children of statutory school age. Our school target was 96.4%. The Local Authority keeps a close eye on our attendance rates and, in particular, children who have an attendance percentage below 90% (Persistent Absentees).

We are always seeking to improve the attendance of children of families who continue to take term time holidays or who book non-emergency appointments in school time, or who do not make arrangements for children to attend school if a family member is ill. Remember - every half day counts!

Unauthorised Absence
Please do not make travel arrangements or book tickets until the school has authorised the leave. If leave is taken without prior permission from the school, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised and reported to the Local Authority and could result in a fixed penalty fine or legal proceedings.

Attendance Standards
The expected target for all pupils attending our school is 97%
Attendance is closely linked to attainment, children with poor attendance in primary school are less likely to achieve their potential GCSE results.

Good attendance:
97% - 100%

Attendance that is worrying and of serious concern:
Attendance below 94% is considered worrying. If your child's attendance falls below the expected standard we will contact you to let you know and may invite you to a meeting with the school and Local Authority Attendance Officers if it does not improve.

Children with attendance below 90% are considered persistent absentees by the  Local Authority and we will work with them and parents to improve the situation as quickly as possible.

Can I go to school today?
